I told you that Michelle decided to take one college/dual enrollment class during Summer A, right? Well the class started and it’s a whopper. A ton of reading, a ton of writing, all in a very very short time period. Stressful under the best of situations. Really stressful when there’s a paper that has to be submitted to Turn It In by 4:45 on Tuesday and at 5 the same day you have to write a 550 word poem explication and the substitute professor is a half hour late to class.
Michelle is still adjusting to this writing under pressure thing. Having the substitute show up a half hour late was enough to throw her off her game and she didn’t recover well. Her paper isn’t bad but it isn’t great and she’s troubled by that. The poem she chose (they were given two to choose from) is a poem she likes and one she knows I like. It’s a poem she could have done a fantastic job with, instead she just did a mediocre job with it.
If we were still homeschooling full-time then this wouldn’t have happened.
Then again, life is stressful and there will be a million more times when she’s going to be faced with a deadline and delays caused by other people. Learning to handle that now seems like a good idea.
And of course, there will be plenty of opportunities for her to write about Aunt Jennifer’s Tigers if she wants to – plenty of opportunities to do it really well.

Never EVER taking writing intensive courses during the summer session. It is impossible to provide A work in such a short time span and it will kill your GPA. Stick to things that are lecture and exams, e.g. history, foreign language etc.
Wait…the sub was 30 minutes late and the class was still there? Don’t they have the 15 minute rule in Florida? 😉
