Fun Lesson Friday

My new favorite blog, Worth the Trip, inspired today’s fun lesson idea with her post comparing the original “Annie on My Mind” cover to the current cover. I am usually a fan of the “original” covers but not always, (in the case of “Annie” I’m a fan of the original.) And it’s pretty interesting to compare all of the different covers books are published with since they vary from release to release and country to country.

Head out to a used bookstore with your kids and look at all of the different covers, discuss which covers you prefer and why. Talk about why the cover changes occurred from release to release. Take a peek at the Book Design Review blog. (They don’t use labels/categories consistently so you’re probably better off navigating through the archives by month.)

What makes a good book cover? What makes a bad book cover?
